Functions-Based Curriculum

Participants will:

§ Investigate the role that functions play in the revised curriculum and its importance in connecting mathematical ideas;

§ Explore strategies for developing a deeper conceptual understanding of functions and addressing misconceptions related to how students learn functions;

§ Develop a deeper understanding of the balance between conceptual understanding and procedural fluency when working with functions (e.g., time spent on a concept; level of proficiency; lesson focus; assessment strategies; etc.)

§ Make connections between students’ ability to apply the mathematical processes and teaching functions through problem solving Furthermore, through hands-on exploration of various functions, connections between Grade 7 to College will be identified.
